“I began Moonflowers Co as a celebration of women in Afghanistan, who harvest saffron with love. Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, now in DC, I wanted to share the story of resilience of Afghan women.

The workforce in the saffron industry of Afghanistan consists of 80% women, they plant, harvest and package the saffron spice. In a country where women do not have equal opportunities and rights, and have been suffering the most from war and oppression, their livelihoods depend on the saffron industry.
